Or perhaps you used your Instagram account to sign up for a new app and no longer use it. Unlinking accounts is a common need, and it’s usually a straightforward process once you know where to look.

Disconnecting Instagram from Facebook
This is one of the most common links people want to manage. To unlink your personal Instagram and Facebook accounts, open the Instagram app and go to your profile. Tap the menu in the top-right corner, then select Settings. From there, go to Accounts Center, then Accounts & profiles. Select both accounts and tap Remove from Accounts Center. This will disconnect them, meaning you can no longer cross-post stories or reels directly.
Unlinking Third-Party Apps and Games
Over time, you might have granted access to various apps and games. To review and remove these, head back to your Instagram Settings. Tap Apps and websites to see a list of everything that’s currently connected. You’ll see options for Active, Expired, and Removed. To unlink an app, simply tap on it and select Remove. This revokes its permission to access your Instagram information.
Removing a Linked Account from Login
If you’ve linked other accounts (like Facebook) to log into Instagram more easily, you can remove that, too. In your Settings, go to Security, then Two-Factor Authentication. Tap on Authentication App or Text Message—even if you don’t plan to use them—and you’ll see an option to Remove any linked login sources, like Facebook.
