Connecting your Topstep account to the NinjaTrader platform is the essential final step before you can begin trading with your funded account. It’s the bridge that allows your trading strategies and execution to flow seamlessly into the market using Topstep’s capital. While the process is straightforward, knowing the exact steps ahead of time makes everything go smoothly.
Getting Your Topstep Credentials Ready
Before you even open NinjaTrader, the most important thing you need are your unique connection details from Topstep. These are not your regular Topstep login credentials. You’ll find them by logging into your Topstep Dashboard, navigating to the Trading Platforms section, and locating your NinjaTrader-specific username and password. Keep this information handy, as you’ll need to enter it precisely into NinjaTrader.
Connecting Within the NinjaTrader Platform
Once you have your credentials, open NinjaTrader. Look for the Connections menu in the top-left corner. From the dropdown, select Configure. A new window will appear. Here, you will click Add and then choose Topstep from the list of available brokers. This is where you’ll input the username and password you collected from your Topstep dashboard. With the connection configured, you’re almost there. Go back to the Connections menu. You should now see Topstep listed as an option. Simply click on it to initiate the link. The connection status in the bottom-left corner of NinjaTrader will turn green when the link is successfully established. You should then see your Topstep account balance and any open positions populate in the Control Center.

Sometimes, a connection might not work on the first try. The most common culprit is a simple typo in the username or password. Double-check that you’ve copied them exactly from your Topstep dashboard, paying close attention to capitalization. If the problem continues, ensure you are connecting during market hours, as some simulators may not be accessible 24/7. A quick restart of NinjaTrader can also resolve many temporary glitches.
